Things to Think About Before Writing a Cover Letter
With EasyJob at your side, you’ll never have writer’s block when you need to write a cover letter. Before you begin writing, ask yourself the following questions:
- 1. What does the prospective employer need?
Which skills, knowledge and experience will be assets in the job you are targeting?
- 2. What are three to five qualities that you would bring to this employer and/or this job?
If you’re responding to a published or posted job listing or classified ad, those same qualities mentioned in the ad or posting should be included in the list of your top qualities. If you’re not applying for a specific job opening, then think of which skills, knowledge and experience are most valued in the widest range of positions and companies.
- 3. In what ways does your work experience match or relate to the job’s requirements?
What specific experience or achievements can you mention which provide credibility to the qualities you identified in Question 2 above?
- 4. What are the reasons you want to work for this particular employer?
What do you know about the employer or employing organization? What features of their products or services, organizational culture, or company goals relate to your own background, values, and professional objectives?
